ProofreaderPro AI Humanizer Review: Plans, Files, Privacy

ProofreaderPro is built around files and Word review. The tradeoff is tiering: its public pages conflict on whether the advertised 250 free words reach the humanizer, paid humanizer passes stop at 500 or 1,000 words, and the pages also disagree on mode names and which plan exports native Word tracked changes.

Research stayed on ProofreaderPro's signed-out pages on August 26, 2026. The scope covered its homepage, Text Humanizer, Pricing, FAQs, Terms, Privacy Policy, Humanizer API, and sitemap. I left every interactive route unused: no account, text submission, upload, humanizer or detector run, API-access request, or checkout.

This is a HumanPen publication; the company also operates the document workflow evaluated later. ProofreaderPro claims are attributed to its own public material. The article evaluates purchase terms and file handling; it does not measure detector outcomes.

Start with four concrete units: monthly words, words per pass, the input format, and the required return format.

The current pricing page separates the monthly plan allowance from the amount one pass can hold. That distinction matters when a 5,000-word chapter has to be processed in 500-word pieces.

The Free card says 250 words per pass but does not list the AI Humanizer. The FAQ and Terms place it on paid plans. The dedicated Humanizer page, however, says `Start with 250 free words`. The public pages do not explain how those statements fit together. Top-up packs add 10,000 words for $9, 25,000 for $19, or 45,000 for $29, and the pricing page says those consumer top-ups do not expire.

Mode naming has the same problem. The FAQ and API list Academic, Corporate, Creative, and Blog/SEO. The Humanizer page separately presents a General mode, while the Plus card only says `all writing modes`. The public pages do not publish one reconciled list.

A monthly balance answers how much you can process. A per-pass cap answers how many pieces the document becomes.

ProofreaderPro is not a paste-only tool. Its homepage advertises uploads for `.docx`, `.pdf`, and `.txt`. The plan table is more useful for purchase decisions because it separates file access and export formats by tier.

The site itself switches between `DOC` on the pricing card and `.docx` on the homepage. More important, a PDF upload on Academic does not come with a PDF output promise on that same card. If the return format is part of the assignment, check the plan-specific download options before processing the real file.

File upload and same-format return are different capabilities.

ProofreaderPro has a real revision-review story. The editor shows insertions and deletions, allows users to accept or reject them, and the Text Humanizer page describes a `.docx` download with native Microsoft Word tracked changes. The plan cards make the entitlement less clear.

The broad feature pages do not name a required plan, while the paid cards distinguish viewing from exporting. Do not assume the in-browser diff and a Word file carrying revision marks are the same entitlement. Verify native Word export under the exact tier before purchasing.

If a supervisor expects Word revision marks, test that download path before the deadline.

The Humanizer API is a separate request-access product with Bearer-key authentication and JSON input and output. One request accepts 50 to 1,000 words. Failed requests are returned to the API balance.

The API page says developer credits remain valid for 12 months. That is a different rule from consumer top-ups, which the Pricing page calls non-expiring. Nothing on the checked pages says an Academic or Academic Plus subscription includes an API pack, so budget the two balances separately.

The browser subscription and the developer API are two purchase paths.

ProofreaderPro's public pages agree that subscriptions and top-up packs are generally non-refundable. Their exceptions differ.

The Terms and Conditions do not make downtime part of their two-part test. They also exclude refunds for unused words, partial periods, downgrades, and change of mind, while preserving mandatory local consumer rights. Before purchase, ask support to identify which exception applies. This article is informational, not legal advice.

Cancelling future renewal and receiving a refund are separate events.

The Privacy Policy, updated July 4, 2026, says submitted text is sent to unnamed trusted third-party AI service providers. It says those providers process the text only to return output and do not use it to train their models under their API terms.

• The FAQ says a completed document is deleted unless the user explicitly saves it.
• The humanizer page says every run is saved to history; Academic keeps the last three and Academic Plus the last 20.
• Account deletion removes documents, uploads, version history, and edit logs from active systems, while some payment records may remain for legal reasons.

The pages do not name the AI providers or explain how a saved humanization history differs from a saved document. For an unpublished paper, a grant draft, or confidential research, ask both questions before uploading.

`Not used for model training` does not mean `never sent to a third party` or `never retained in history`.

ProofreaderPro fits best when academic tone, a visible diff, and a Word-facing workflow matter more than processing a whole long document in one pass.

Use a disposable file that resembles the real deliverable. Check the downloaded format, citations, numbers, equations, tables, and revision marks yourself. A vendor benchmark cannot answer whether your particular file survived the trip.

The right plan is the one whose return file meets the submission requirement.

The overlap between ProofreaderPro and HumanPen is direct: both work with uploaded documents rather than only a paste box. The public contracts differ in what they make explicit.

Eligible results can continue lowering AI for free. For transparency, HumanPen prepared the comparison, so read its product column as first-party disclosure. It is neither an independent test nor a winner declaration. ProofreaderPro's PDF input, Word revisions, and academic editor may be the better fit for a different job.
