The short answer
Grammarly’s goal is clearer, more correct writing. AI detectors look at statistical properties of sentence structure - and "more correct" usually means more even and more regular, which is what AI text looks like.
When to use Grammarly
- Your goal is to write well, with no AI-detection question involved. That is its home ground, and it is excellent there.
- You need grammar, spelling, and punctuation checking. We do none of that.
- You are writing business email, reports, or everyday documents and want real-time help everywhere. They integrate across platforms; we only process uploaded files.
- You care about enterprise-grade reliability and compliance.
Why better writing can score worse, and where we stop
Detectors measure whether sentence lengths are uniform, whether structures repeat, whether word choices are unusually standard. Polishing tools do the opposite of what would help: they even out uneven sentences, replace colloquial phrasing with correct phrasing, and swap repeated words for more precise ones. Those edits make the writing more professional and simultaneously move it statistically closer to AI output.
There is public data consistent with this. In HumanizerBench’s July 2026 cycle, Grammarly scored 0.0 on bypass while posting the highest meaning score (94.5) and the highest readability score (82.1) in the field, with zero penalties.
Those numbers tell a clear story: it changes very little, very cleanly, with great fidelity to the original - because it was never built to evade detection. Reading that as "Grammarly is bad" misreads it; on its own objective it outperforms everyone.
We do no grammar checking, no writing suggestions, no real-time assistance, and have no extensions. We do one narrow thing: take a finished academic document and restructure its sentences while holding facts, citations, and formatting fixed. If what you want is "make this better written", we are not that tool.

Can I polish with Grammarly first, then humanize with you?
Better the other way round: humanize first, then run a grammar and spelling check. Polishing reintroduces even sentence structure and can undo part of the effect, while a grammar pass at the end does not disturb the statistical features.
Grammarly has an AI Humanizer feature - is that not built for this?
They offer one, but on the public benchmark data its behaviour looks closer to conservative polishing than structural rewriting. Judge it on your own text.
Can you fix my grammar while you are at it?
No. We do not do grammar checking, and our rewrites sometimes introduce more conversational, less tidy phrasing on purpose - that is the point, not a defect.
Will my paper end up sounding unprofessional?
No. The rewrite stays within the academic register, with terminology, citations, and data protected. "Uneven" refers to sentence rhythm, not to lowering the standard.
