Confirm which system you need before anything else
What makes Chicago distinctive is that it offers two entirely different citation systems, and disciplinary convention decides which applies. Author-date uses parenthetical citations and a "References" list, and is usual in the social sciences. Notes-bibliography uses superscript numbers with footnotes and a "Bibliography", and is usual in history and the humanities.
Choosing wrong is not a formatting detail - it is the wrong document structure. Confirm your department’s requirement first.
Three differences from APA get missed, since both are parenthetical. Chicago puts no comma between author and year. Chicago uses no "p." before the page number. And in the reference entry, the year follows the author as its own element ending in a period, rather than sitting in parentheses as APA does.
Chicago also puts the issue in parentheses with no comma after the volume, and uses a colon before the page range.
FAQ
Should I use author-date or notes-bibliography?
Follow your department’s or journal’s requirement. As a rule of thumb, social sciences use author-date; history and the humanities use notes. If unsure, ask your supervisor - this decision shapes the whole document and is not easily reversed later.
Will it change my body text?
No. The body is frozen throughout; only in-text citations and the reference list are processed. That is also why it costs far less than humanizing - 5 credits per 1,000 words.
I am currently in APA. Can it convert?
Yes - the comma, page-label, and year-position differences are all handled.
Will References be reordered?
Alphabetically by author surname.
What does it cost for one paper?
