Three ACS details that get missed
ACS style is mandatory for JACS, Nano Letters, and the rest of the ACS portfolio. Its rules live in typographic detail - which is exactly where automated exports go wrong.
Journal abbreviations carry periods. "Nature Methods" abbreviates to "Nat. Methods" - note the period. This is the opposite of the medical NLM convention, which uses no periods. If you have submitted to both medical and chemistry journals, the two are easy to confuse. ACS follows the CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) abbreviation system.
Authors are separated by semicolons, not commas. A comma sits inside each name and a semicolon between authors. Most styles separate authors with commas, which makes this the single most common error.
Element order and punctuation. ACS orders a reference: authors, title, abbreviated journal, year, volume, issue in parentheses, pages. The year comes before the volume, unlike APA or Vancouver. We also apply the ACS typographic conventions - journal abbreviated per CASSI and italicized, year bold, volume italic - so if your target journal drops those, adjust after processing.

Will it change my body text?
No. The body is frozen throughout; only in-text citations and the reference list are processed. That is also why it costs far less than humanizing - 5 credits per 1,000 words.
Which journal abbreviation standard is used?
ACS follows the CAS abbreviation system, which differs from the medical NLM system - chiefly in that ACS abbreviations carry periods and NLM’s do not. Confirm against your target journal’s Author Guidelines.
My references were exported from SciFinder or Web of Science. Can they be unified?
Yes. Exports from different databases are brought under one set of ACS rules, including author separators, journal abbreviations, and element order.
Are italics and bold preserved?
Character formatting already present in the document is preserved. ACS journals vary slightly in their italic and bold requirements, so check your target journal’s instructions before submitting.
What does it cost for one paper?
